This talk, held at the German National Symposium of Phlebology in Stuttgart in September 2017, shows that certain developments within civil society have a clear impact on the success of healing, especially in view of the communication and interaction between doctor and patient. As the medical expertise of doctors speaks in favor of an asymmetrical style of communication, the thesis of the paper is the establishment of real symmetry due to the common aim, patients’ improvement of health. Here, the patient’s expertise is the personal knowledge of his or her health situation. Combined with the medical expertise of doctors, both may join forces looking at the common health-related objectives. More research is needed for an empirical proof of concept of this specific kind of doctor-patient-interaction.
